6/9/2023 0 Comments American lion meacham![]() ![]() Jackson stated in a document written in response to the nullification movement in South Carolina that nullification was “incompatible with the existence of the Union, contradicted expressly by the letter of the constitution, unauthorized by its spirit, inconsistent with every principle on which it was founded, and destructive of the great object for which it was formed” (227). Nothing shows his passion for union than his response to the nullification crisis. Perhaps due to his own lack of a family growing up, it seemed as though he substituted the United States as his family, and as anybody would want to keep a family together, Jackson was opposed to any type of breaking of the union. ![]() His personal passion for the interests of the United States citizen, however, stood out the most to me. As I read the book, a few key characteristics of Andrew Jackson stood out more and more. ![]()
